Manuel Pellergrini deserves another season at Manchester City, says Gary Neville

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville says Manuel Pellegrini should be given the chance to turn things around at Manchester City next season.

Pellegrini has come under fire in recent weeks after a poor run of form saw City drop to fourth place in the table with little or no chance of successfully defending their title.

And bookmakers have made Jurgen Klopp favourite for the top job at the Etihad next season after he announced his plans to stand down as manager of Borussia Dortmund at the end of the current campaign. 

But City have no plans to oust their manager and Neville believes Pellegrini’s return will provide much-needed stability at the club.

"I hope they don't change their manager," the former Manchester United defender said. "I hope that Manuel Pellegrini stays at Man City and I hope he is able to correct the things that have gone wrong in the last four months.

"He used the term 'garbage' in recent weeks when discussing City's form and four wins in 15 games for a club like Man City is not right and I hope he stays to correct the performances and can complete the job."

A recent 4-2 derby defeat to United saw City slip 12 points behind Chelsea and just four points above fifth-placed Liverpool in the race for the final Champions League spot.

'Renovation'

Neville believes some work will be required on the squad during the summer by insists wholesale changes are not necessary. 

"I don't rule anything out, in football you don't make wild predictions," he said when asked if the current City team will struggle to get back to their best.
